Rice Hospice volunteers provide emotional support, comfort, and assistance to the hospice patient and family members.
They also provide valuable support to Rice Hospice staff and programs.
Volunteers make life more comfortable for patients, families, visitors and staff.
They make a difference in the communities served by hospice.

| Be a friend to the patient and family. Offer companionship or respite care; an outing for pie and coffee; play cards and games; read and reminisce; just be there to listen or sit quietly. |
Be a support to the family after their loved one has died. Offer visits, make phone calls, and write notes to the bereaved as part of our bereavement support services. |
Be a support to the administrative staff. help with tasks such as filing, copying, making packets, bulk mailings, and computer data entry. |
Be a friend and an additional volunteer visitor for hospice patients who live in nursing homes. |

| Be an additional support person for patients and their families while they are hospitalized at Rice Memorial Hospital. |
Help raise community awareness of Rice Hospice by working at health fair booths and speaking at church and community gatherings. |
Offer help and support with a patient who would like to reminisce on tape or in written form. |
Be there for a patient who does not want to die alone. |

| Partner with your people-person pooch to provide pet therapy visits to hospice patients through the Canine Care for the Journey Program. This position requires additional training for you and your pet. |
Provide one-on-one support at Camp G.K. Bear to children (K-6) who have lost a loved one. |
Help with fund raising activities, such as Bowl for Hospice, Share a Memory, and Soup & Salad luncheons. |
Offer healing touch sessions as a complementary therapy. This position requires additional training. |
